Fun Fact
World renowned writer and film critic, Roger Ebert was born and raised in Urbana, living at 407 West Washington Street, which he referred to as, “… the center of the universe.” He graduated from Urbana High School in 1960, and during his high school years, he wrote for the News-Gazette, winning recognition for his sports writing. As a senior, he became editor-in-chief of the high school newspaper, the Echo, and was class president. Roger Ebert’s life was rich, and it all started in Urbana.
