Advice for New Residents: First, I would encourage them to explore beyond the University campus. Each neighborhood and area of Champaign County has its own unique personality, local businesses, parks and hidden gems. Next, I would get involved in community events, such as farmer’s markets, street festivals, art fairs, and cultural celebrations. Also, try all the restaurants and shops as there is no shortage of great ones. Lastly, I would advise them to be open to the diversity as it’s one of the area’s greatest strengths with its mix of students, professionals, families, and international residents and visitors that keep us all globally connected.
