Advice for New Residents: I am biased here but I always suggest new residents sign up for Smile Politely to find out about cool events and happenings around town. I also suggest checking out meetup.com to find affinity groups. For queer residents, I tell them about the UP Center. I also talk up our surprisingly great local food scene and craft breweries. In the summer I mention the fantastic programming outdoors in the Rose Bowl tent. I mention the affordable and convenient CUMTD bus system as a way to get around and can also recommend which streets are safer for bicylers. I also talk about the fun and affordable programming and, arts, and fitness classes available through the Park Districts. The public libraries also have a lot of free programming including crafts and author talks and attending such events can be a great way to meet people.
