About the Role

EPE is seeking to grow the Distribution Design Engineering Team and would like to hire candidates who can complete design tasks with minimal oversight and can learn quickly and provide training to other staff while ensuring that EPE’s reputation for providing clients the highest level of quality is maintained.  This position is primarily remote; however the successful candidate will be located in Pennsylvania to support occasional travel to client site.

Responsibilities

  • System Design and Engineering:
    • Create distribution design sketches and supporting documents per the Client’s distribution design guidelines and standards.
    • Specify distribution construction standards.
    • Review, approve and stamp distribution designs and drawings.
    • Specify necessary materials per Client distribution construction standards.
    • Perform and provide cost estimates to customers.
    • Support distribution designers with customer related issues and expectations.
    • Prepare new drawings utilizing AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Utility Design methods.

    Perform all necessary steps to produce and release to Client design drawings, including:

    • Field inspects pole locations.
    • Stake pole locations.
    • Create unique tracking numbers for each pole/project location.
    • Coordinate with Client’s internal stakeholders including Construction, Civil Inspection, Forestry, Public.
    • Maintain knowledge of current procedural/process documents.
    • Create and update process documents as needed.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of project correspondence, project schedules/timelines.
    • Provide professional and timely communication with the client, other contractors, and utility customers as well as other project stakeholders.

    Field inspect locations of the impacted field locations to gather necessary information for design purposes.

    • Perform and/or check engineering calculations to determine and confirm design feasibility.
    • Create distribution construction notes.
    • Specify materials required for distribution construction projects.
    • Perform and provide cost estimates to customers.
    • Follow Client approved safety procedures both in the office and in the field.
    • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Other distribution engineering and design services as required such as permitting or project coordination.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university/college.
    • Preferably an Electrical Engineering degree but a Mechanical Engineering degree is also acceptable.
  • Experience with electrical power calculations.
  • Familiarity with the NESC and NEC.
  • Experience with Utility Work Management Systems (WMIS, Dynamo, SAP).
  • Experience with Utility Design and Construction Standards.
  • CAD Experience (AUTOCAD/MicroStation or similar).
  • Must have experience using ESRI ARC GIS or AUD/AutoCAD Experience.
  • Consulting Experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel to client site in PA required.

Location: This position is remote.

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (20% or less)
