EPE opened its Center for Energy Innovation to engage closely with engineering, design and business students at the University of Illinois. It works alongside leaders and professionals at EPE on projects related to designing solutions for renewable energy including solar, wind, and battery storage solutions, integration, interconnection, transmission and distribution planning and operations, regulatory compliance, grid modernization, distributed energy resources (DER) and energy market analysis and feasibility studies, as well as project management. The students generate creative solutions through multi-disciplinary collaboration and the exploration and implementation of new and emerging technologies.
About the Role
Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) works with clients on a global scale designing solutions for renewable energy (solar/wind/battery storage), Generation Interconnection, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Smart Grids. Electric Power Engineers interns bridge theoretical classroom concepts and hands-on training to overcome real-world challenges. Throughout the internship, skills will develop to advance professionally and academically.
EPE is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Enterprise Technology Intern. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in enterprise technology strategy and digital transformation initiatives. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals to explore innovative solutions, analyze systems, and contribute to impactful projects that help organizations achieve their goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist in creating diagrams, reports, and presentations that simplify and communicate technology concepts to various audiences.
- Support the evaluation of technology solutions and platforms to meet strategic business needs.
- Participate in workshops, brainstorming sessions, and team meetings to gather insights and contribute ideas.
- Help analyze system dependencies, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.
- Research emerging technologies and trends to inform decision-making and strategy development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support technology initiatives such as cloud adoption, system integration, and modernization efforts.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- Passionate about technology and eager to learn about enterprise systems and strategies.
- Interest in the power industry, with curiosity about technologies like Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), and Distribution System Operator (DSO) concepts.
- Basic understanding of technology concepts such as cloud computing, data management, and system integration (coursework or projects in these areas are a plus).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a desire to learn and grow.
- Comfortable using tools like Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and visual tools (e.g., Visio or Lucidchart) to communicate ideas.
- Effective communicator and team player, ready to contribute to a collaborative work environment.
Location: This position will be in person in the Electric Power Engineers office in Champaign IL. Start date for this position is May 27, 2025 and will conclude on August 15, 2025. Position is 40 hours a week.
